What is tooth filling?
Cavities cause major issue in our teeth. When we go to a
dentist they will remove this cavity and fill that area with some materials
where the cavity was once filled. And this process is called tooth filling.
Steps involved in tooth filling
Local anesthesia will be given around the affected teeth
area. Next a drill or laser will be used to clear the decayed area. The
instrument used to drill depends upon the severity of the cavity and the
comfort of dentist. He will use dental products of his convenience to treat his
patients. Dentist get most of their dental supplies online. With those
equipment the cavity will be removed. Now the dentist will probe the area and
confirm that all the cavities are removed clearly.
Now the cavity is removed then the dentist will get ready to
fill the area. Once he fills then he colors and polishes the filling. Next a
special light is applied to harden the teeth layer so that the filled materials
never worn out. This is how filling happens.
Types of filling materials
When we say filling, it requires materials that are accepted
by the teeth to be filled. There are several types of filling. Teeth can be
filled with gold, porcelain, silver amalgam, and many more. The durability of
using this material will last from 10 to 15 years. They can withstand any form
of chewing and works well. It will bond with tooth structure. Filling is not
only used for cavity but also for chipped teeth.
What is indirect filling?
So what we have seen is direct filling. Where the material
is directly filled and with indirect filling, the process happens in the dental
lab and we may need to visit the lab once or twice before we fix it. this type
is followed when our tooth structure is not strong enough to handle direct
filling. Here on the first visit, you decay will be removed and an impression
is taken for which the filling needs to be prepared. This impression is taken
to the laboratory to make temporary filling. During the next visit this
temporary filling is fixed in our teeth. If it is accepted by our teeth then a
permanent cement is placed in the teeth.
About temporary filling
We use temporary filling on cases where we visit first time
and get our decay cleared. And also if we plan for gold filling then we may
need to visit twice. In those cases we will be using temporary fillings that
can stand for a short time before we enter for the major one.
